Bible Question:
Matthew records that the learned men among the Jews -- the Scribes and Pharisees -- came to Jesus and asked, "MASTER, WE WOULD SEE A SIGN FROM THEE" "AN EVIL AND ADULTEROUS GENERATION SEEKETH AFTER A SIGN; AND THERE SHALL NO SIGN (no miracle) BE GIVEN TO IT, BUT THE SIGN (miracle) OF THE PROPHET JONAS: FOR AS JONAS WAS THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS IN THE WHALE'S BELLY; SO SHALL THE SON OF MAN BE THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS IN THE HEART OF THE EARTH." (Matthew 12:39-40). Form the verse what does it mean. Can we say that at the time of curification he did not die and that he was alive for three days in the tomb and the thrid day rose. What really did happen during this process. |
Bible Answer: Greetings and welcome to the forum, In response to your question, in part, you suggest, “Can we say that at the time of the crucifixion that he did not die and that he was alive for three days in the tomb and the third day he arose?” Well, not trying to appear blunt, but we can take just about any Scripture and twist it around to say what we want but it doesn’t mean that it is true the way we say it. All Scripture must be considered in order to establish a true doctrine. Psalm 119:160 The sum of thy word is truth; (ASV) And every one of thy righteous ordinances endureth for ever. Jesus actually died as per Paul. 1 Cor. 15:1-8 Now I make known unto you brethren, the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye received, wherein also ye stand, [2] by which also ye are saved, if ye hold fast the word which I preached unto you, except ye believed in vain. [3] For I delivered unto you first of all that which also I received: that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; [4] and that he was buried; and that he hath been raised on the third day according to the scriptures; [5] and that he appeared to Cephas; then to the twelve; [6] then he appeared to above five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain until now, but some are fallen asleep; [7] then he appeared to James; then to all the apostles; [8] and last of all, as to the child untimely born, he appeared to me also. If more Scripture is needed I will be happy to list more. Have a great day, CDBJ |
