Bible Question:
My NASB Bible (Zodhiates Key Word Study Bible) has several differences from all of the online versions I look at and I was wondering what the reason was behind that. For example, James 1:6 in my Bible states "But let him ask in faith without any doubting...". All online versions that I have looked at state "But he must ask in faith without any doubting...". There are many others like this. I know it is a small thing but my daughter is memorizing scripture and I have chosen the NASB as the best translation for her to do so. I would hate to find that she has been memorizing something wrong. Any ideas what is going on here? Thank you Lance Albury |
Bible Answer: I think the first and best part is praying together asking God to let the Holy Ghost to give understanding. Christianity is a not a religion is a personal retionship with Jesus Christ. As a parent I try to emphasize Jesus Christ, His Word and Love. Give her a perspective about was the verse is telling her, because I think that is more important that she understand it before memorizing it. I think literal approach of NASB is much better than NIV or other paraphasis bibles. Maybe you can choose the version (KJ or NASB) depending on the passage and the meaning you want to give to her, or maybe you can choose other verses that explain better and simpler, you can use a concordance to look upon passages with same words or meaning. Is up you and of course the guidance of the Holy Spirit. There is to much controversy about bible versions, maybe you can learn about it and have a better opinion. A good objective source is Josh McDowell's: "Evidence That Demands a Verdict: Historical Evidences for the Christian Faith" where many topics including bible versions. Find it at Amazon. Also I think I will be a blessing not only to memorize verses but having a devotional for kids. Have you tried The Mailbox Club? This have made wonders to my 5 year daughter. Email them at http://mailboxclub.org/signup.asp, and they will send you free of charge devotionals to your mailbox where you can read it to her, she can draw and memorize scripture. Finishing a course they will send you a nice diploma to encourge your little girl to continue learning about God. Also for yourself please go to www.ednetusa.com and enter the english part of the site to discover easy to download and print devotionals that will touch your heart (as have touched mine) very deeply and very easy to understand and give word to your child.
