Bible Question: What is meant by the term "age of accountability" when it comes to children being saved or acting sinfully? Specifically, at what age would they be held accountable by God for their decisions with eternal consequences? |
Bible Answer: DavidP A man once said, “By the time a child is ten he is either a Christian or a pagan. If he is a pagan, he has been greatly sinned against. His parents, his neighbors, his teachers and his playmates have done him a great harm.” A mother’s sheltering arm and a father’s watchful eye should ever be exercised to see to it that their child is properly educated in the things of the Lord both at home and in the church." However there is nothing in the Bible that gives us an actual age. In fact the whole concept of innocences of children is a matter of debate. These passages speak to me on this. 1 Samuel 3:7 (Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, nor was the word of the Lord yet revealed to him.) Luke 12:47-48 And that servant who knew his master's will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. [48] But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more. Luke 18:16 But Jesus called them to Him and said, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. EdB |
