Subject: Worship and Bible Study: Can we do both? |
Bible Note: Good Morning to you! I think what you are seeing is abuses on both sides. Some Charismatics lose sight of purpose of the gifts and focus on the manifestations or experience rather than on God and Scripture. Some Fundamentalist see this and over react refusing to allow any form of worship that may evoke emotions or excitement. In a well balanced church of either persuasion you should find an emphasis on prayer, Bible study, seeking more of God and a freedom of worship. Now some churches may have a more traditional worship style (hymns, hymnals, and organs) while other churches may be more contemporary (choruses, projecting the words on the wall, drums and keyboards). In either style the emphasis should be on the worship of God not evoking the emotions of the participants. That is not to say the participants do not get emotional involved. That is saying the focus is to worship God not to manipulate and control the emotions of the worshippers. There are both charismatic and fundamental churches that accomplish this. I hope this answers your questions. EdB |
