Bible Question: Could someone give some insight on Hebrews 10:26? |
Bible Answer: The advice I give to anyone who asks about these passages, as with anything pertaining to salvation, is to sit down and pray to God for wisdom. Clear out any other things you've been told by anyone else, and just look solely to God for the answer. Ask yourself this question. Is God a God of confusion? He is not, He will lead you in the right direction! However, know that this is what I believe God spoke to me through this passage in Hebrews. Others will without a doubt tell you something different on this board. Take into account what they say, and compare it to the Bible and what God shows you. If you read all of Hebrews, you see the thrust of the message is about Jesus Christ's high authority, and how He was the perfect sacrifice. Then, periodically you see warnings against falling away. This passage is one of them. I think the author goes to great lengths to describe vividly someone who has salvation, but has turned it away. Just like the Israelites had the promise, the salvation, of the Promised Land, but rebelled. If you are in doubt that they are speaking to someone who is saved, read verse 29....which says this... "How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that HAS SANCTIFIED HIM." Let's see, the new covenant that has sanctified me, that is the covenant of Jesus Christ. If I haven't accepted it, I haven't been sanctified, I haven't been saved. Therefore, the passage speaks about a Christian who is saved, but through a life of active rebellion turns away the living God. Now then, can Christ's sacrifice still save you? Well, it is impossible for a person to be brought back to repentance, because if it were possible Christ would have to be re-crucified. What does that say to me? Since Christ is the sole authority of giving people the ability to have a repentive heart, he wouldn't give it to someone who had with finality turned Him away. However, to the one whom He still offers a chance, He reminds them of repentance, and His son's sacrifice. Do I believe in the fallen Christian? Yes I do. |
