Bible Question:
Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: KJV When I tried to live for Christ saying I'll never do this or that, the temptation to do just those things overwhelmed me. Today, as I've learned to trust Him more and more, the temptations I once saw are no where to be found. I am being protected; of that I am sure. That is why, when I consider Matthew 6:13, I hear the verse saying 'Lead me away from temptation and deliver me from evil.' I've tried to research but it hasn't helped to quiet what I sense in my heart. |
Bible Answer: Hi BadgerBob. You quoted. Matt 6:13 'And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.]' Our Father will never tempt anyone, but He will however, allow you to be tempted, but only so far as He knows that you can be tempted without falling, see. 1 Cor 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it. 1 Cor 10:14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. The following verses may also be of help. James 1:13 Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone. James 1:14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. James 1:15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death. John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us. 1 John 2:1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; 1 John 2:2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. May the Lord bless you, and keep you safe. ebrain. |
