Bible Question: The Bible teaches us that when we give our lives to christ that we be come, Priest, Saints, and Kings. So, what is the big deal about Pope John Paul II being made a Saint? Can you give me some verses that talk about Christains being Saints, etc. It will speed up my learning process. |
Bible Answer: Greetings Regguh! I certainly can't speak for the Catholic tradition, but Scripture does indicate that all Christians are saints. One of the most common introductions in the New Testament is, "To the saints in...". Many of Paul's letters open in this manner. Scripture also makes several other things clear about saints. 1) Being a 'saint' is a matter of calling. Rom. 1:7 says, "To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ." Thus, we are saints because of what God does, not what man does. 2) The saints will judge the world according to 1 Cor. 6:2. This may be the event that if mentioned in Rev. 20:4. 3) Eph. 6:18 tells us that we are to always pray for the saints. 4) Col. 1:12 speaks of the inheritance of the saints. 5) Col. 1:26 tells us that the mystery of God has been revealed to the saints. 6) Jude 3 informs us that the 'faith' has been entrusted once and for all to the saints. 7) Rev. 5:8 speaks of the prayers of the saints as incense before God. 8) Rev. 11:18 speaks of a reward from God for all the saints. 9) Rev. 13:10 and 14:12 tell us that the saints must be patient and endure. I pray that these verses will help you along your way as you study what the Bible has to say about the saints. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
