Bible Question: Romans 12:17 says to "Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody." I'm looking for a deep answer to this. I'm not sure if I should take the face value answer of just be careful of your actions, but how does that relate to Everybody. Why would it not be to God? |
Bible Answer: Hi, jessica21! Paul is talking to believers (Christians) his admonishions are about the visual representation of Christ. True we are not to care about the world (Jesus said--paraphrased--"do not fear those who can only take your life (harm your physicall existence), rather fear God, who can not only take your life but also your spirit (spiritual existence)... But Paul is worried about how we are seen by the world (both other believers and non-believers alike)... Since not everyone is on the same level of understanding and devotion we are to teach, through example, those who are weaker in the faith and those who are reverting... then there are the initiates (just awaken to the faith) and the non-believers, how can we bring them to Christ if our behavior is as the world's: for you are still living by your natural inclinations. As long as there are jealousy and rivalry among you, that surely means that you are still living by your natural inclinations and by merely human principles. (1 Corinthians 3:3) Paul desire is that we learn to bring others to Christ through love and humility: It is all to bind them together in love and to encourage their resolution until they are rich in the assurance of their complete understanding and have knowledge of the mystery of God in which all the jewels of wisdom and knowledge are hidden. (Colossians 2:2) God Bless! Angel |
