Bible Question: my cousin says the only ones in the bible who wore makeup were prostitutes and women are not susposed to. He said show it to him in the bible and he will believe it and he is one who will read it and hear |
Bible Answer: Greetings and welcome to the forum, It sounds like your cousin could be hung up on the big five, don’t drink, don’t smoke, don’t dance, don’t go to movies, and don’t go to the beaches where the girls hang out. I am not say that any of these are right or wrong I am just saying that many believers get these hang-ups and as a result they appear to be so heavenly holy that they are no earthly good. Their Christian walk could be nothing more then a series of don’t. They want their women to walk around looking like a zombie, down in the mouth and thus showing their humility, which they are very proud of. They try to emulate the saddest thing that has ever walked the face of earth. I guess that’s so everyone will want the joy that they have in the Lord? There has to be something drastically wrong with this way of thinking. I live in Amish country in Ohio and I see it all the time. It doesn’t sound anything like Paul conveyed. 1 Cor. 9:19-23 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. 20And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; 21To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. 22To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. 23And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you. The verses that you are looking for are as follows. 1 Tim. 2:8-12 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. 9In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 10But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. 11Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. 12But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence Please don’t pull this out of context, CDBJ |
