Bible Question: In 1 Cor. 5:1-13, Paul uses some very direct language regarding how the church should handle members who are actively engaged in homosexuality. My question is this. Are there any other references in the Bible giving guidance regarding how to deal with a member who is actively engaged in any other sin? I'm specifically looking for any text that says we are "not to keep company with" members who are actively engaged in sinful practices of any other kind? |
Bible Answer: Matthew 18:15-17 Ps 141:5 shows that it is better for christians to be judged by the righteous. I also believe that this passage in Matthew referrs to two other OT passages and the standards and procedure is set within the Jewish culture of OT teachings. Deut 19:15 and Lev 19:17 Of course do not forget that repentance is most sought after with love and this is bound in OT teachings tied into those two passages. But moreso because we have grace. Paul speaks of this also, but not your question. We also have many character illustrations in the OT of sin within the camp that give further guidance on how to handle these matters as a church. One illustration that is a favorite of mine is Achan's sin starting in Joshua 7. It tells much about how to handle the matter. Not like this and that. But through the illustration. enjoy your long study on this matter charley |
