Bible Question (short): E Pluribus Unum: Strength in Numbers? |
Question (full): Previous posts on the subject of Bible translations seem to point to a censensus that a translation of the Scriptures carried out by a large group of qualiifed translators is preferable to the tranlsation of one person. The reasons for this preference are fairly obvious and have been stated before, so I won't attempt to recap them here. My question to you is this: If group translation is preferable to individual translation, why wouldn't annotations in a study Bible made by a group of Bible scholars be preferable to annotations made by an individual? Examples of study Bibles that represent joint effort by a group would include NASB (and NIV) Study Bibles, the King James Study Bible and the Believer's Study Bible. Individual effort would include Ryrie, MacArthur and Dake. What are your thoughts? --Hank |
