Bible Question: explain this sentence was exceeding wroth, and sent froth, and slew all the children |
Bible Answer: He was angry that the wise men had not returned as he had asked them too. he had hoped to learn who the newborn "king" was so that he could kill him. Instead, God told the wise men not to return, so Herod in an effort to kill his "rival" as king sent his men out to kill every male child that fell within the likely age range according to what the wise men had told him. Needless too say, he did not succeed, since God warned Joseph to take his family and flee to Egypt. This inicident of the killing of the children is refered to as the Slaughter of the Holy Innocents in Catholic circles. Emmaus |
