Subject: why did Moses write Genesis? |
Bible Note: Mommapbs: My first impulse was to answer the question, "Why did Moses write Genesis?" with the quip, "Well, somebody had to!" One might also ask, "Why is it that no forgiveness of sins is possible without the shedding of blood? (Heb. 9:22) Or "Why is there no salvation except through Jesus Christ?" (Acts 4:12) Or "Why is our own righteousness not pleasing to God?" (Isaiah 64:6) We could go on asking a million "why" questions to which God's word responds essentially in the same way that our Lord responded to Peter, "What is that to thee? Follow thou Me." (John 21:22). I think you summed it up quite succinctly and accurately when you said that whom God chooses to record His truth is up to Him. And it may be said with equal authenticity that, in a broader sense, not only whom God chooses to record His truth but the content and scope of the truth that He chooses to reveal to mankind are all up to Him. Therefore, if all answers to all questions that man devises are not contained in the revealed word of God, we should rest in faith and be content with what He has revealed, for it is indeed ample to keep us occupied for a lifetime. And the rest that remains God's mystery? Well, to paraphrase what our Lord said to Peter, I believe it is not inaccurate or sacrilegious to put in the vernacular of our time, "That's really none of your business!" --Hank |
