Bible Question: How could I explain the doctrine of the trinity to my twelve-year old? |
Bible Answer: Good question, mel. As a parent of three, now grown, I have a simple answer. (1) First and most importantly, be sure you can explain the doctrine of the Trinity to yourself! If not, read up on the doctrine or consult your pastor. (2) Practice explaining it to your spouse and other adults (3) Then explain it to your 12 year old -- and be prepared to field questions from your child and be quick to confess frankly and honestly that neither you nor any other human being understands all the mysteries of God. Twelve year olds have much more savvy than we adults sometimes give them credit for having, so my guess is that your child will grasp the basic concepts of the doctrine of the Trinity as well as, or even better than, the typical adult. A prayer before your explanation wouldn't hurt a thing! --Hank |
