Bible Question: Is playing 'matchmaker' Biblical? About a year ago, a friend of mine 'set me up' to meet a Christian girl who is about my age (middle 20s) at a restaurant. We had a great time eating dinner together and found out that we have many things in common. However, we remained acquaintances and still remain so today, even calling each other friends in Christian love. We still keep in touch through e-mail and send each other Bible verses.. :) However, I am convinced that our Lord has different paths for our lives in His service. Please tell me, was it right for my friend to 'set us up' like that, or was it Biblical? Is any matchmaking Biblical? Thanks in advance! |
Bible Answer: I don't think there is anything wrong with this. I don't recall any precedent set in the Bible for the social situation we are in today. I do know that the Bible says not to be unevenly yoked, and if that means the only way you can meet someone of the opposite sex who is Christian, than go for it. Good friends are valuable. I think about the only types of matchmaking in the Bible were those done by the parents for their children, or for nations to cement their relationships (kings marrying their daughters to other kings). |
