Bible Question: In Matthew 24:29-31 the NASB updated. Says "But immediately after the tribulation............ verse 30 And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear...... After studing this chapter and I am reminded this is what Jesus said would happen, how does anyone come up witha pretrib, rapture theory? Was not Darby who in the early 1800's who first come up with this theory? From what I have read the early church Fathers believed Christ would come as Matthew 24:29-31 states. Any coments? |
Bible Answer: Hello Searcher, Darby was one of the first to introduce the pretrib. position and it caught on when C I Scofield picked up on it and incorporated into his newly released Bible. Since C.I. was calling the shots at the Dallas Theological Seminary it gained wide expectance. I must admit it sounds better then the alternative and it doesn’t take much persuasion especially when verses, that are very explicit, say we will not suffer the wrath of God. Where the problem come is from the fact that people don’t realize that the tribulation period isn’t from God. The tribulation is a period of time that is for believers, all of the unbelievers are going to be saying peace and safety. The adversary is the one causing things to go down the tubes and the wars are the result of man’s mess ups. If we weren’t going to be here for all the trouble why would Jesus warn us not to be deceived? CDBJ |
