Subject: Is predestination true? |
Bible Note: Greetings John! I don't want to get into this topic! ;-) I just wanted to ask you about your statement that 'faith is a gift'. I have seen this statement several times by others as well, and I have almost responded several times - but never have. Eph. 2:8 says, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith?and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God?" The interesting thing about this verse is that 'grace' and 'faith' are both feminine nouns, while the pronoun 'this' is neuter. Now, in Greek, a pronoun must be the same gender and number as it's antecedent. Thus, 'this' cannot be referring to 'faith' or to 'grace', since they are not neuter. It appears that Paul uses 'this' to refer to the whole process of salvation, but not 'faith' or 'grace' in particular. If he had meant 'this' to refer to either or both of these nouns, he would have had to use a feminine pronoun. I just had to pipe in! :-) Have a great day my friend!
