Bible Question:
In the Last few months I found Jesus and it has been emotionally life changing, now things are becoming clear, but there are now questions to the same believers of Christ. 1, Why are there divisions in Christianity? i.e. Roman Catholic, JW's, Protestant etc etc ? And why don’t they associate with each other? This doesn’t match up at all with what I have read (New Test). There is only one faith and we shouldn’t follow divisions, we will always interpret things differently. But having "Flags" or other Divisions causes War and fighting and hypocrisy. We really cant live in happiness without our Lord. 2, Why do people bicker with translations? We all know the score so lets all get on and spread the Glory of God to people who don’t know. There is about 20 Percent left of the world who don’t have access to the Bible so lets build churches and allow the scriptures to be forfilled! The Gideons INT Mat 24.14 "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. I hope these points are of some interest. |
Bible Answer: Rez Welcome to the forum and to your new life in Christ. To answer your questions: Because we live in an imperfect world and even though we are saved we too are imperfect. I wish it were different but until Jesus returns and sets everything in order our world and those living it in will be imperfect and sin will still reign. That is the easy answer now I will try to address your two issues. 1. You ask why are there divisions. Then you mentioned Catholics and Protestants and Jehovah Witnesses. The Catholic Church was the first church but because it had men involved it eventually got filled with compromise. Eventually the men, known as Reformers, could take no more and tried reform the church. Before this could be totally accomplished, some Reformers got frustrated and decided to break from the Catholic church and start a new church. Eventually disagreement grew within those ranks and soon there were many denominations. Problems arose when one group tries to force their supremacy and ideology on others and wars and such broke out. Eventually cooler head prevailed and Catholics, Protestants with their various denominations pretty much have learned to coexist. The issue of Jehovah Witnesses is a little more complicated, a man name William Taze Russell decided to start a new church. He came up with a new translation of the Bible. Much of it was plagiarized from the King James and we know he could not read or write Greek or Hebrew. In any case his new religion was wrought in error, which birthed more error and soon the whole thing went bad. JW’s claim to be Christian but their Christ instead of being eternal is the archangel Michael. Instead of Jesus raising from the died both in body and spirit their Jesus rose only in spirit. Instead of all believers that die going to heaven they believe on the first 144,000 JW will go the rest will go to an earthly heaven. Instead of hell they believe non believers just go away. As you can see this is a false religion and one of many that Jesus warned would appear. As to question 2 why are there so many translations? Again were are human and as humans we resist change. The Bible was translated into English which happened in the 1500-1600’s. Eventually someone decided that we needed to update it to put it into more modern language. This was change and many people resisted. But the new translation came out nonetheless. Then someone else thought he could do a better job and soon another translation came out. Eventually publishers found that they could make money bringing out new translations that satisfied needs of various focus groups and that is what they then began to produce. Many people make a great issue of all the translations, but all of the recognized genuine translations carry the same message. The King James, New King James, New International, New American Standard and Revised Standard all same basically say the same thing. They may use different sentence formats and different words but the message is generally the same. I tried to answer your questions in a few words but your question addresses complex issues that just a few words don’t do it real justice. Remember look not at man but look to the risen Savior! EdB |
