Subject: Come as you are |
Bible Note: Greetings, fellow believers!! Just thought I'd add my 1 1/2 cents worth..:) Should we show up looking respectable? Of course. But we should not look unkindly upon someone who does not enter into God's house all gussied up. Consider the following passages: 1) James 2:2-3. "For if a man comes into your assembly with a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and there also comes in a poor man in dirty clothes, and you pay special attention to the one who is wearing the fine clothes, and say, "You sit here in a good place," and you say to the poor man, "You stand over there, or sit down by my footstool," have you not made distinctions among yourselves,..." 2) The woman in Luke chapter 7(vv.37-50), who washed Jesus' feet with her tears. She was in the presence of Christ himself, more than likely in less-than-stellar apparel. But He did not tell her to change into something more presentable. His only words to her were,"Thy sins are forgiven" and,"Thy faith has saved thee; go in peace." We should always be mindful of showing modesty in our respective house of worship. But we should also not give more respect to the man in goodly apparel, and less to the man in dirty clothes. We should all be welcome. After all, it's His house, not ours..:) May God give strength to all. 2nd Samuel 22:31-33 |
