Bible Question: WHAT IS THAT LIGHT IN GENESIS 1:3? |
Bible Answer: Hi G ZAZ, 1 John 1:5 says, "And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is (Light), and in Him there is no darkness at all." The parentheses are for comparisons later. I would have you compare 1 John's Light with the light in Genesis 1:3 before you determine that the light is talking about God Himself. I would however, say that it could be talking about the Man Jesus Christ in much the same way as I see the Man in Genesis 1:26, "Then (God) said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness." In a sense then, the light can be seen as Jesus being totally man as well as totally God right from the beginning. This One who "was in the beginning" as per John 1:2 is the one God who separated the light from the darkness in Genesis. The light of Genesis was good. And Jesus asked the people "Why do you call Me good?" We call Him good and capitalize words about Him because He is God and He is good. I believe the Scripture that says that "I have come as light" but I also believe that He is the (Light) of the world. Jesus said that we are the light of the world. |
