Bible Question: When speaking of eternal security are there denominations that actually believe that a christian could have a porn addiction, not repent, and die with it, and still go to heaven? I am trying to understand what it is that is being said by many concerning this subject. I know that the saint who walks in faith will repent of sins the Lord convicts them of and so they always have eternal security. I know that if a christian falls into a sin they are not lost. I know that even if they were to fall and then die in the same hour before they repented, it is hardly fathomable that they are eternally lost. But is practicing a porn addiction 'faith?' So then can such a one really claim the promise of eternal security? Shouldn't that christian fear eternal hell? |
Bible Answer: Dear Scribe, Forgive me but this seems to be a rehash of the discussion on He 6:6. Neverthless, I must admit it is a favorite topic of mine. I do understand your incredulity about people who profess faith in Christ but continue to fall into egregious sin. It does make one wonder. I have some besetting sins as well (I'll keep them between God, my Pastor and myself) and as a result have questioned my own salvation from time to time. Once convicted I am quick to seek God, to confess and to repent. As a rule, this leads me to redouble my efforts to take advantage of the means of grace that the good Lord has placed in His Church. Study of His Word so that I may not sin against Him. Renewed zeal for good works (made possible out of love and gratitude for my forgiveness). Faithful attendance and worship in the community of the saints and partaking of the bread and the wine in remembrance of Him (we gather on Sundays). Considering my own wickedness, I find it difficult, Nay! Impossible to judge the eternal destiny of anyone. If yhey are His, then who am I to judge another man's servant. Unfortunately the churches in America have neglected or abandoned altogether the Biblical mandate to exercise discipline in the Church. Perhaps if it were restored some may be brought to repentance, others may have to be turned over to satan that perhaps in the end they may be saved. At least some wolves may be shown the door out! Not all who profess Christ and have been baptized are regenerated.John writes : 1 John 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us. God Bless Scribe, John |
