Bible Question: WHY IN THE BIBLE DOES IT SOMETIMES SAY :"FATHER" FORGIVE THEM FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO, AND THEN IT SAYS: MY "GOD" MY "GOD" WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME. ONE QUOTE SAYS FATHER THE OTHER GOD. DOES THIS REFERENCE MEAN SOMETHING DIFFERENT. WHY IS IT "FATHER" ONE TIME AND "GOD" THE NEXT? |
Bible Answer: Well, that's actually a really good question. Unfortunately, I don't know if the answer will provide the closure you are looking for. The common way of thinking about this difference in nomenenclature seems to be that simply in the translation of the quotes, the true meaning may have been muddled. Although Jesus knows he is speaking to his father, he also respects his father by calling him the name referring to WHAT he is, not WHOM he is in the quote in question. I think the dilemma is a result of translation of the actual words rather than the meaning behind them. |
