Subject: invitation to salvation/accepting Christ |
Bible Note: Greetings Matt! I agree with much of what you said, but I do think that there must be a balance in a worship service. I'm not a very emotional person by nature. I'm not given to public displays of emotion or worship. I tend to be more didactic in my preaching. However, the church I am attending is teaching me the value of some emotion as well. Last Sunday, my oldest daughter was at church for the first time in about 3 years. She has been having major sin problems (17 years old). After the music, our Pastor opens up the altar for a family prayer time. The Holy Spirit fell on us in a major way. People started coming down to the altar. Nothing else was done for the entire service except prayer and worship. In fact, the service lasted for a little more than 2 hours. We need both teaching and heartfelt worship - in their proper balance. Concerning Scriptures which speak of accepting salvation, here are a few. 1) Mark 10:15 - "I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”" 2) John 1:12 - "Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—" 3) Rom. 5:17 - "For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ." 4) 1 Tim. 1:16 - " But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life." There are others, but these are the ones I could find quickly! :-) Well, I'm going to bed! Welcome to the forum! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
