Bible Question:
In accordance with Exo. 33:20, all who see God's face die. I know that everyone dies, but, Moses, Noah, Enoch, and I don't know who else saw God's face (according to scripture) and they didn't die as a result of such a vision. Please help me with reguard to this idea. Lew |
Bible Answer: Greetings Lew, Moses never saw God's face because indeed anyone who saw God's face would die. In Exo. 33:13 Moses asks God to see His ways. God grants this request. He tells Moses that He will pass before him but while He passes before Him he will place Moses in a cleft of a mountain rock, presumable Mt. Sinai, and covered him with His hand until He had passed by. He then removed His hand and allowed Moses to see His back (v.23). This seems to be a contradiction of Exo 24:10 where the elders are said to of "seen the God of Isreal". The contradiction is only on the surface. What the elders really saw was only "something like a pavement made of sapphire" under His feet. Isaiah only saw the skirt of His robe (Is 6:1) and Jacob, who wrestled with the angel of the Lord saw only a preincarnate appearance of Jesus Christ (Hos 12:4). If you can get me the verses of the incidents with Noah and Enoch I am sure I can clarify them for you. prayon |
