Bible Question:
I have some family members on my wifes side that are Catholic. I am trying to witness to them because I do not beleive that they are truley saved. They think they are because of the good people they are. They consider themselfs Catholic for know other reason than they had gone to a Catholic church growing up. They can not tell me really what they beleive and why. They tend to look down at me for asking them about salvation and their beliefs. Any advice on what I can say without getting into an argument? My questions are... 1. Please tell me the basic differences between Catholic and Baptist. 2. Differences of the Catholic Bible. I use the NASB, and I read that the Bible is Inspired by God through men, and that no one should add, subtract or alter it. The Catholic bible clearly has different books. What are they and do they beleive that they are Inspired by God just as my Bible? |
Bible Answer: Dear friend in Christ: My suggestion is never to point fingers against another group that they are wrong. The books in the Catholic bible is known as Apocrypha, which as per Bible Scholars was found to be inconsistent with the Original doctrine in hebrew, hence was removed from the NIV/KJV and other bibles. To know more search in google.com for Apocrypha. I would just ask you to tell your family to just read the Bible. Catholics in general do not read the Bible and then allow the Holy Spirit to work in their lives. Catholics were told not to read the Bible and hence miss out on the path on salvation, so it may be a good idea for you to start a small Bible study/prayer with them. This way you will make them look into the word of God. Do remember that many will be saved even from the Catholic church too, and they will be born again believers, living in that church. So if you are able to make them understand the true meaning of born again, the battle is half won and then allow the Holy Spirit to do the work. God Bless you for your desire to evangelize |
