Subject: God Intentionaly Made Bible Difficult? |
Bible Note: Hello, John Reformed. It's a pleasure to welcome you! We have a Reformer Joe on the forum also. If we put you two reformers together, we can make a sentence: John reformed reformer Joe :-) .... John, your confessed weaknesses remind me ever so poignantly of mine, for I too find myself secretly wishing that the Bible was just a bit more lenient on this or that; and I too am beholden to every responsible commentary, study Bible, map, concordance, picture or chart that I can get my hands on that holds even a pale promise of being able to equip me better to understand more about God's word. The lady or gentleman who asked the original question of this thread asked whether God intentionally made the Bible difficult to understand. Well, the first answer that comes to mind is this. God is sovereign and it is no business of mine to impugn his intentions. But I feel that the questioner had no such aims as this. John, I like to think of what some people see in the Bible as difficulties and challenges in a different category of thought -- as rich mines of pure gold that God has deposited for us, but in his wisdom he knows that it is to our ultimate benefit that we do at least a part of the digging for ourselves, but the Holy Spirit shines a lantern on our efforts as we dig. Well, I never intended the welcome mat to extend to so large a carpet! I hope that your experiences on the forum will be enjoyable and fruitful. Soli Deo Gloria! --Hank |
