Bible Question (short): CS Lewis views some of Bible OT as myth |
Question (full): C.S. Lewis Believes portions of the bible O.T. are myth??? I have read some of his more familiar works: "Mere Christianity", "Screwtape Letters" etc He stuck me as an orthodox evangelical, so I was SHOCKED when reading the book: "C.S. Lewis On Scripture" Lewis says: "the question about Jonah and the great fish does not turn simply on intrinsic probability. The point of the whole book Book of Jonah has to me the air of being a moral romance, a quite different thing from, say the account of the King David or the New Testament Narratives, not pegged like them into any historical situation" He feels the same way about Job, Ester, and some Psalms. (and the Creation, but for other reasons). My church leaders quotes CS Lewis a LOT and their literalists. Again, I was surprised and I wanted to see if others were has Shocked as me??? |
