Subject: why is masterbation a sin. |
Bible Note: I found an interesting post on a web board when someone was asking about masturbation, here is the reference given: Answer: It's a sin to do masturbation according to Gala. 5:22-23 King James: 19 Now the works of the flesh are plain: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissension, party spirit, 21 envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law. I find an interesting point on the last verse specially. It lists the fruit of the spirit, which are what we live by pretty much (Christians activly seeking a relationship with God) and then it says against such there is no-law… makes you think anyways, kind of doing my own little study I guess lol… After a careful study I still don’t see how this scripture references masturbation. I see the aspect of self control, but that specifically mean masturbation. No, I honestly don’t believe masturbation is a sin, I see more peoples opinions of conclusions they have personally drawn to say it is a sin. They take a piece of scripture here and a piece of scripture there and make it sound good and draw a line saying this is the way it is. God made us sexual beings, he knew we would have these desires before we where ever born. I believe God would not give us these desires to torture His children. I can see how some people can see or call it a sin in the aspect of addiction. This is true of almost anything. Addiction of anything is dangerous regardless of what it is. Watching TV, eating too much, drugs, and computer games. An addiction can be physically harmful and or spiritually harmful. Why? Many ask is it dangerous to the spirit? Because it is something that continuously draws your attention to it instead of into God. KJ: 24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon NIV: 24"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.” In other words the Word of God teaches how making an addiction other then God can become your god. This is because you are continuously thinking about it or ways to work with it. Masturbation can be an addiction because of the fact of its pleasure to the body and wanting to satisfy your body. When someone masturbates it release a chemical within the body once you ‘finish’. It is easy to become addicted to this chemical and want it again and again like a drug. So, if you can learn to control it, by not keeping it in excessiveness you can do it without being in sin. This is my own self study of this subject; anyone else is welcome to put their two cents in. |
