Bible Question: If a person is depressed is this of the devil? Or should they have more faith in God to heal their affliction? |
Bible Answer: Dear Kdblessed00, I believe depression can come from several things. [1] The Devil can cause it through oppression. [2] There can be a medical imbalance which causes it. [3] Another cause is wrong thinking caused by our original sin nature. I believe all three can be healed by God. Meanwhile, if there is a medical technical reason involved, I would continue that medical care until the Lord removes the problem. In any of the above cases, I believe that the Word of God is VERY beneficial. When we are saved, our spirit is reborn and the Holy Spirit joins with our Spirit making us a new creature. But WE have to walk in that new life. That may occur automatically in many areas, but we tend to drag a lot of that "old man" with us. Through reading the Word of God and applying it to our lives, we become enlightened as to many things in our way of living that may not any longer be beneficial or proper according to the ways of the Lord. Being in the Word and applying it will bring us more in line with the ways of the Lord and will bring about the changes in our thinking that are healthy and true. Romans 12: 1-2 "...I urge you brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will." And Ephesians 4: 17-32 "So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivitym they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more. You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. Surely you heard of hima nd were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to PUT OFF YOUR OLD SELF, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to PUT ON THE NEW SELF, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body. In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need. Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful in building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you." I truly hope this will be of some help for you. Itiswritten |
