Bible Question: In Leviticus 19 it talks about not marking your bodies for idols or getting tatoos...there are many people who get tatoos. There are bikers who have religious tatoos that may really speak to other "hardened" bikers and could help to lead them to Christ. So, what were they talking about with the tatoos? Does God not like tatoos? |
Bible Answer: Tattoos were most likely associated with Egyptian idolatry. They were also connected to names of idols, and were permanent signs of apostasy. In light of this, it seems to me the real issue here is: Are tattoos in and of themselves sinful or forbidden? Or is a tattoo forbidden only when the tattoed individual intentionally associates it with idolatry or apostasy? I do not claim to know the answer. I merely raise the question here. If anyone has any factual input or an opinion based on fact, I would appreciate reading what you have to say. |
