Bible Question: Are you sure it is wise for the Lockman Foundation to host a Bible debate forum? |
Bible Answer: Several have suggested that Lockman ought to monitor this Forum. Let's take it a step further. I am posing a question in all sincerity and humilty. It's not a trick question. Nor is it meant to embarass anyone. It would be helpful to get as many replies to this question as possible. . . . Here's the question: If you are in favor of this Forum being monitored, then what guidelines would you provide for the monitor? I.e., what specific elements of a posting would you consider inappropriate and fit only to be omitted or deleted from the site? If we're talking censorship here, what kinds of replies would you censor? What would you be looking for? In short, what would be the specific duties of the monitor and what would be the guidelines for fulfilling those duties? . . . Should user questions, answers and notes be weeded out on the basis of bad doctrine, bad grammar, bad spelling, bad attitude, wrong motives, or what? . . . Also, I see a problem with appointing someone to judge all the replies and then give the one "right" answer. 1) This would probably tend to add fuel to the fire of debate, rather than settle the issue. 2)Also, I feel that many an individual would be hesitant to post or to be candid in what he writes, if he had a lingering mental image of a guy with a big pencil just waiting to pronounce judgment on whatever the individual writes. I feel such an approach by the monitor would greatly inhibit many from saying what's on their mind or from posting anything at all. |
