Bible Question: I would like to know if the bible says anything concerning the women and wearing of pants. If so, please answer or if not why? |
Bible Answer: Yes, it is just fine for women to wear pants. The argument generally given for women not wearing pants is taken, of course, out of O.T. scripture, and I don't have a concordance handy to look up the exact scripture but you can anytime. But the meaning of what's said is that moral men and women, which Gods' people were to be, shouldn't try to be each other. If there were customs or characteristics attributed to one sex or the other, then don't cross those lines by trying to be the other sex. The transvestites of today are good examples of what God was saying back then. Then there's also the answer that both men and women back then wore robes! Pants were alot of work! Were the women back then accused of being "unlady-like" for wearing the same clothing that men wore? Heck no! So when pants came along somewhere in the course of history, who says that only men were allowed to wear them? I'm sure that with the invention of sewing machines there were plenty of women who made use of the ease of sewing more practical clothing with which to accomplish the everyday tasks of living in, as their male counterparts did. The only other argument is that "pants on women are immodest." Any more immodest than pants on men? Aren't both sexes required by the Lord to obey the guidelines of modesty? So why do some hold that pants on women are immodest while pants on men aren't? We've all seen plenty of men wearing pants in shameful, immodest ways. So the bottom line is that the same rules of modesty which guide men in how appropriate their attire is to be guide women also. |
