Subject: Genesis Creation, a practical example? |
Bible Note: Support......................................... Greetings Sir! Overall, I think Ed is right on! The only concern I would have with the way it is currently phrased is that there are passages that obviously figurative, but nothing in the text says that it is. For example, Mt. 5:29-30 says, "29 If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell." Now, we know that this is an example of hyperbole. However, the text doesn't make this plain. So, would we have to take this example as being literal? Maybe we could combine Ed's and my suggestion! Take everything literally unless the genre or the text specifically says that it is figurative! :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
