Bible Question: I would like to start reading the Bible on a daily basis. What is a good way to gain full understanding? and how do I start that process? |
Bible Answer: If you are not accustomed to reading the Bible don't be surprised if you don't find yourself bored at first. Here's how I like to keep the interest.... I would suggest reading about the most exciting thing in the Bible......Jesus! Read the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) and they will tell you more about this man from Galilee. Also, if your Bible has scriptures after the verses, look them up and they will help you tie the whole Bible together. Another thing that helps me is that every time I read the Bible I try to make some notes about what I've just read. Now, this can pile up alot of paper in a little while....I have several notebooks filled and really enjoy going back and reading what I wrote. Sometimes it helps me in what I am facing at that moment. Lastly, but not leastly, I pray before I read. It doesn't have to be the longest, most elegant prayer, but it will help. Most of the time mine goes something like, "Dear Lord, help me to be diligent in my reading, help me to understand what I've read, and apply your principles to my life." I find that God can help you understand His word. God Bless, Devan |
