AMPLIFIED 2015 | Revelation 2:5 'So remember the heights from which you have fallen, and repent [change your inner self--your old way of thinking, your sinful behavior--seek God's will] and do the works you did at first [when you first knew Me]; otherwise, I will visit you and remove your lampstand (the church, its impact) from its place--unless you repent. |
Subject: Love Him then work for Him |
Bible Note: The lamstand does not mean your salvation. Here Jesus is telling them to do the works that they did when they first new Him. But we cannot be saved by our works. 1 Corinthians 3:15 says that our works wll be tested, and if they are not good we will lose our reward but we will still be saved. So the lampstand could mean our rewards or it could mean the light that we are supposed to shine into the world. They were not lazy. They had been working hard. (verse 2 and 3) The work He was talking about was loving Him.(verse 4) We must remember to not get so involved in working for the Kingdom and forget about God. When we spend time with God in prayer we are loving Him. Then He places the lampstand in our life and it shines into the world. The only way we will be effective in God's Kingdom is by His anointing. 11 Cor 3:5 |
