AMPLIFIED 2015 | Revelation 2:5 'So remember the heights from which you have fallen, and repent [change your inner self--your old way of thinking, your sinful behavior--seek God's will] and do the works you did at first [when you first knew Me]; otherwise, I will visit you and remove your lampstand (the church, its impact) from its place--unless you repent. |
Bible Question: Does this verse mean that if you have quite going to church and living a christian life. When you return back to church and repent of this sin , that you still have a chance to go to heaven? |
Bible Answer: shootin4heaven: Thank you for a good question -- one which no doubt many others are wondering about. The short answer to your question: Rev. 2:5 "*remove your lampstand.* God's judgment would bring an end to the Ephesian church" (MacArthur Study Bible). From where do we get this meaning of the verse? From both the Greek words in the text and from the context in which it appears. 'Scripture abundantly affirms the Christian's eternal security; therefore this passage must not be interpreted as teaching that believers in Christ can lose their salvation. See Jn3:15-16, 36; 10:27-30; Rom 8:35,37-39; Eph 1:12-14; 4:30; Phil 1:6; Heb 10:12-14; 1 Pet 1:3-5' (note at Heb 6:4, New Scofield Reference Bible, Oxford, 1967). Grace to you, kalos |
