Bible Note: Hi RC Actually I am surprised to hear you refer to the church as the bride of Christ. Mark 2:19 states the "guests of the bridegroom(NIV), "sons of the bridechamber (ASV),(YLT)(DARBY) "children of the bridechamber (KJV) Just because the Bridegroom was to be taken away from them, does that make us the bride? I can find no verses in the KJV or any other translation that has words "Bride , Christ" in the same verse. But there are 14 instances where the term is used as a metaphor, such as, "as a bride adorneth [herself] with her jewels." Isa 61:10 (KJV) Rev 21:2 does suggest to us that The holy city will be the bride, "And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband." (another metaphor) There is however 4 verses in the KJV New Testament that have an exact phrase match to Body of Christ. Rom 7:4 1 Cor 10:16 1 Cor 12:27 Eph 4:12 and, if you would allow me to respectfully question you, could you please tell me how we can be the body of Christ as well as the bride? I am modestly troubled by this expression of the church being the bride. When a man gives a woman an engagement ring, does that make her a bride? Since scripture is telling us that we (the church) are the Body of Christ, I cannot understand a relationship outside of marriage where we are the body and simultaneously the bride. Thank you for your views, God Bless, Tim |
