NASB | 1 John 5:10 The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 5:10 The one who believes in the Son of God [who adheres to, trusts in, and relies confidently on Him as Savior] has the testimony within himself [because he can speak authoritatively about Christ from his own personal experience]. The one who does not believe God [in this way] has made Him [out to be] a liar, because he has not believed in the evidence that God has given regarding His Son. |
Subject: Is this referencing the Holy Spirit? |
Bible Note: Hi Ray, I am following you now. I think I would leave Spirit in Mt 12:28. Here is my reasoning. Jesus is speaking about His activity - Jesus relied upon the will of God and the power of the Holy Spirit. (John 5:30; Acts 10:38) Secondly, this also suggests that your line of reasoning, the Pharisees had balsphemed against the Holy Spirit, and they could not accept Jesus for who He is. For IF they HAD recognized Jesus casting out Satan by the Spirit, indeed they would have had an opportunity to recieve Him and the One who sent Him. I KNOW we're not supposed to speculate, but I suspect that perhaps Jesus is reaffirming their lost condition. Since I do agree with Steve #119638 that the testimony or witness is referencing the Holy Spirit, it would indeed illuminate this verse for ME to pencil in a capital letter! Blessings, mommapbs |
