NASB | 1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love [dread does not exist]. But perfect (complete, full-grown) love drives out fear, because fear involves [the expectation of divine] punishment, so the one who is afraid [of God's judgment] is not perfected in love [has not grown into a sufficient understanding of God's love]. |

Bible Note: Hi, The answer to your first question as the "fear" of the Lord is not same as being afraid of God - No.God fearing is having reverence for God.It is believing in the awesomeness of God.For instance you have respect for your "earthly" father so much so that when you were a child there were certain things you just won't do . . .that is not being afraid of your dad!it is respecting his words. As written in Acts 9:31 the fear of the Lord is so much different that it goes on to say COMFORT in the Holy Spirit. Let me ask you something . . .when you were a kid, assume you were scared of ridding a bike because you may fall and be hurt . . . if you were put on a bike did you ever feel comfortable and happy to sit on it? That is the fear of nature . . . gravity. It is not the same as the fear of God |
