Bible Note: Dear Fwiaskycap: Lets go over the passages you mentioned. Passage: Rev 1:10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like the sound of a trumpet Commentary: Revelation was written by one of Christ’s disciples, one of the Apostles; John. We are not Apostles, So we cannot compare ourselves with an Apostle saying that since God spoke to John in this way, He should speak to us that way. Please be aware there are many cults who like to say this. Don’t get caught up in this kind of teaching. It is outside of mainstream Christianity with many errors and dangers. Passage: Rev 1:15 His feet were like burnished bronze, when it has been made to glow in a furnace, and His voice was like the sound of many waters. Commentary: This verse only says that God has a voice and again was spoken by the Apostle John. Notice it is a comparison using the work “like”. He is expressing what God’s voice sounded like to him. “Like” the sound of many waters. Passage: Ex 19:19 When the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and God answered him with thunder. Commentary: Who was Moses? Again He was someone God specifically chose in His plan and purpose for His people Israel. Moses was a prophet. Moses wrote the first five books of the bible. To say we should be spoken to as Moses is out of context. Notice even the people who Moses led did not hear God’s voice as He spoke to Moses. They did hear something that sounded like thunder but that was inaudible to them. Again we are not prophets and as someone pointed out God speaks to us through Christ Jesus today in the form of His word. There are no more prophets in the likes of the Old Testament prophets as John the Baptist was considered the last prophet. Passage: Job 37:2 "Listen closely to the thunder of His voice, And the rumbling that goes out from His mouth. Commentary: Who was Job? Some students believe this was one of the first books written in the bible. Job was a very special person in God’s plan for the ages. Some believed he lived in the time of Abraham. So you see this was a different era, a different time in the history of God’s plan for the world. Those are some good verses Fwiaskycap. Do you have any more? Let’s look at them closely. What is becoming apparent to me is that you are saying God should speak to us as He spoke to the prophets and apostles. Am I correct? A question I might post to the forum is why does God speak to the general population differently that He spoke to the prophets and apostles of old? Sincerely, Val |
