NASB | 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord does not delay [as though He were unable to act] and is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is [extraordinarily] patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. |
Bible Question: Isn't Peter addressing the church? (2 Pet 1:1) Why say "He is patient toward you", i.e., believers, rather than "toward them", i.e., the mockers? It seems like it makes a big difference. We won't perish (John 3:16, Rom 6:23, etc.). Is he saying that the Lord is waiting for the church ("who have received a faith...") to repent? If so, could he be speaking of future believers? (I wasn't born when Peter lived.) If not, why? |
Bible Answer: GOD IS CALLING FOR EVERYONE TO REPENT REMEMBER WHAT IS SAID IN ROMANS ALL HAVE SINNED AND COME SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD THAT MEENS THE BELIEVER AND THE UNBELIEVER MUST REPENT DAILY FOR SOME WAY THAT WE HAVE FALLEN SHORT OF GODS GLORY BECAUSE WE ARE YET IN THE FLESH THE ONLY REAL WAY NOT TO AIR IS TO WALK IN THE SPIRIT WHICH MEENS YOU MUST SUBMIT YOUR SELF TO GOD IN OBEDIENCE TO HIS WILL(WORD). |
