Bible Question: To what in verse 1:3 "seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence." does the word "these" reference? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Mommapbs! Some take 'these' as a reference to His own 'glory' and 'excellence' at the end of v. 3. However, Greek pronouns normally agree with their antecedents in both gender and number. 'These', in v. 4, is a neuter, plural pronoun. The only neuter, plural noun in v. 3 is the word 'everything'. So, I would argue that 'these' refers to the 'everything' given to us in v. 3. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
