Bible Question: Anyone here heard of Dr. Rebecca Brown, she has written a series of books on santanism and the Christian believer. Do you think this book is trash or important. My mother-in-law wants me to read it because she thinks satnism is real and we must know what's out there so that we can be equipped to battle. Any thoughts? |
Bible Answer: Hi journeyme, I went directly to Dr. Browns' web site at www.harvestwarriors.com and pulled up several quite revealing statements. Under the brief intro on their Home Page was this: "Led by Rev. Daniel Yoder and his wife Rebecca (Brown) Yoder, M.D. This dynamic couple minister together as a team to boldly teach biblical truths with an authority based on their own extensive and unique experiences. The goal of Harvest Warriors is to raise up an army for God in these last days, empowered and trained to do the spiritual warfare necessary to reap a bountiful harvest of souls for Christ." So, their "authority" is based upon "their own extensive and unique experiences." Wow! That's not exactly a ringing endorsement in my mind, and it certainly does an end-around with the authority of SCRIPTURE! Under: About Us, Dr. Rebecca (Yoder) Browns' qualifications are stated as: "Rebecca has ministered to thousands of people through her books, seminars and individual counseling. Her vast experience through personal encounters gives exceptional credibility to her teaching. She has a deep understanding of the tactics and weapons of Satan’s kingdom which only a few possess. She is uniquely gifted by God to teach." So you say! I can claim to be uniquely gifted by God too, but that doesn't necessarily make it so. While their own personal experiences may have given them "credibility" in the worlds' eyes, that's a long-shot from true, Biblically-based credibility and understanding! There's nothing about their training and studying of the Word of God that I could find. Again, while they may be both "internationally recognized" (I've never heard of them), that in and of itself does not lend credence to their ministry! They may have a passion for others and be committed to serving the Lord, etc, but I see a very experience-based, emotionally-focused, ministry that may or may not be led of God. Remember, 1 Thess 5:21 instructs us to "test all things..." and 1 John 4:1 says not to "believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see if they are from God." Decide for yourself, but I think personally, your time would be better spent in studying what the Word has to say about this topic- if you're interested. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
