Subject: Why did Jesus Go to Hell |
Bible Note: Searcher56 I respectfully disagree, God had promised the righteous dead, that preceded Christ in death, of their salvation. They died not seeing this but believing this. They now awaited in Sheol/Hades for the fulfillment. Psalm 68:18 prophesied this and in Eph 4:8 tells us Jesus fulfilled this. Jesus indeed went to hell, not to suffer or to be tormented but rather as Col. 2:14-15 says “ having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. [15] When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.” Once again we have a very wrong or incorrect view of Hell translated from the Hebrew word Sheol and the Greek word Hades. It is not a place of punishment or Satan’s lair. It is a holding place for the dead, one side is hot/dry uncomfortable the other side was paradise (Abraham Bosom). The hot dry side holds the unrighteous dead. The other paradise is empty now but held the righteous dead awaiting their Messiah. EdB |
