AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Peter 3:18 For indeed Christ died for sins once for all, the Just and Righteous for the unjust and unrighteous [the Innocent for the guilty] so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the Spirit; |
Bible Question:
Where is the scripture that makes reference as Jesus appearing to those who died before his death to give them the opportunity to receive him? I remember reading it in the bible not long ago and I am unable to find it now. Based on that scripture, I believe (or hope) those who have died before hearing about Jesus, including babies, may have the opportunity to receive Him before judgement. Any thoughts? |
Bible Answer: Lisa, Those who died before Jesus' death died under the Old Covenent and therefore did not have a promise of eternal life. Everyone since the establishment of Christ's Church has had the opportunity to hear, believe and respond to God's requirements through the New Covenent. Whether they seek that information is their choice, thus ensuring God's faithful servants are those who truely seek Him. Children, and those adults with the mental capacities of children, were never expected to understand the commands of God and therefore are not held to the same standard. Thus a child who dies before becoming mature enough to "keep the commandmants of God" will not be held responsible for that immaturity on the day of judgement. Best regards, AO |
