Bible Question: A friend of mine believes that after Jesus crucifixion that he went to Hell and set prisoners free "to set things right" Can anyone point me to scripture that supports this. |
Bible Answer: "For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." (Matthew 12:40) Some may think this was the grave, but Jonah didn't lay in a grave for three days and three nights. This is what Jonah had to say, "And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice." (Jonah 2:2) Jesus wasn't condemned to Hell, like someone who dies unsaved, He went to "fill all things" (Ephesians 4:10b). 1 Peter 3:19 is one verse that shows what Jesus did while He was there. Also, see Ephesians 4:8-10. WalkingTalkingBible |
