AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Peter 2:21 For [as a believer] you have been called for this purpose, since Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you may follow in His footsteps. |
Bible Question:
What does following His footsteps really mean especially for us Christians? I just wonder if all of us who claimed to be Jesus follower, why are there so many others who are still suffering from the burden of sin. Could it be that so many of us also can't give a full meaning of following His Steps. We can't speak for others so let me know your idea personally. Thanks and God Bless! inheavenseyes |
Bible Answer: Hi inheavenseyes, When one follows His footsteps he "follows" what He has said. We hear and obey the words of God and we walk in Him. A few verses after the one that Makarios chose we read "For whoever is ashamed of Me and (My) words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when He comes in His glory, and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels." 1 Peter 2:21, "For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in (His) steps, 'who committed no sin, nor was any deceit in His mouth;'..." 1 John 2:6, "the one who says that he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as (He) walked. Beloved, I am not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had FROM THE BEGINNING; the old commandment is the word which you have heard. On the other hand, I am writing a new commandment to you, which is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true *Light is already shining." (I agree * with the newest copyright here) 1 John 2:14, "I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been FROM THE BEGINNING. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of (God) abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one. Do not love the world, nor the things of the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him." 1 John 5:11, "And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His (Son). He who has the Son has the life..." Romans 3:3, "What then? If some did not believe, their unbelief will not nullify the faithfulness of God, will it? May it never be! Rather, let (God) be found true, though every man be found a liar, as it is written, 'That *Thou mightest be justified in Thy words, and mightest prevail when Thou art judged." (See John 9:24, "This *Man is a sinner.") 1 John 5:20, "And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding, in order that we might know (Him) who is true, and we are in Him who is true..." 3 John 1:1, "The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in Truth. Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. For I was very glad when brethren came and bore witness to your Truth, that is, how you are walking in (Truth). I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the Truth." ***The capitalization here and the parentheses throughout are mine for comparisons. John 1:3, "and he looked upon Jesus as He walked, and said, "Behold, the (Lamb) of God." From the heart, Ray |
