AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Peter 2:12 Keep your behavior excellent among the [unsaved] Gentiles [conduct yourself honorably, with graciousness and integrity], so that for whatever reason they may slander you as evildoers, yet by observing your good deeds they may [instead come to] glorify God in the day of visitation [when He looks upon them with mercy]. |
Bible Question:
Dear Jesusman, Greetings in the name of Jesus! Friend, I agree with you about Christians showing forth a worldly attitude. Indeed, we cannot preach about freedom from evil when we act evil ourselves! But what about this? Those Christians whose 'religious zeal' (as compared to Christian charity, service and humility) is a nuisance, causing the Gentiles to be 'turned away' from Christ because of self-righteousness or judgmentalism. Could this also fall into the same category? In either case, insensitive and self-serving (un-excellent behavior!) Christians can cause more damage than help to the furthering of the Gospel. Bible Answer: Hello, Charis! A quote on zeal from my quotable pastor (you've heard some of his sermons on tape): Zeal without knowledge is dangerous. Knowledge without zeal is practically worthless. --Hank |
