Bible Question:
In Matthew 3:11 where it says," Jesus will baptize with the Holy Ghost and fire. What is meant by "fire"? |
Bible Answer: The baptism with fire here, comes with the baptism of the Holy Spirit, it is not a separate baptism. Just as water is symbolic of the washing away of out sins, fire is symbolic of the purification of the Holy Spirit. The "fire" part of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is the working of the Holy Spirit to purify the Spirit filled believer. When gold is melted in a furnace all the impurities come to the top and the impurities are skimmed off. What remains is more pure gold . 1Pe_1:7 in the NLT says "These trials are only to test your faith, to show that it is strong and pure. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold-and your faith is far more precious to God than mere gold. So if your faith remains strong after being tried by fiery trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world."
