AMPLIFIED 2015 | Joshua 4:9 Then Joshua set up [a second monument of] twelve stones in the midst of the Jordan at the place where the feet of the priests who carried the ark of the covenant were standing, and they are there to this day. |
Bible Question: Any chance the 12 stone monument might be around today??? I am referencing...Joshua 4:9 which says and they are there to this day... |
Bible Answer: santamonica woman I have always wondered about that myself. This passage Joshua 4:9 says the stone monument is there to this day. THIS DAY could mean one of two things. The most likely meaning is the day of the actual recording of this scripture, which some scholars feel is as little as 20 years after was built, still other Bible scholars think it was recorded nearly 500 year after the actual event. A less likely meaning of the term “this day” is this day or today as we reading it. Either way is possible with God. I'm told there are piles of rocks are found in and around this area, however to identify one and say with certainty this is the one built in Joshua 4:9 is simply impossible. Also after 3000 years shifting of the sand and ground while the monument could in fact be still there it would probably be buried deep below the surface. EdB |
